You know how it is, you have that bold accent piece that you love until you don’t anymore. Or until it finds a new home in another room…or at your beach house. This is the story of a media cabinet makeover. Of how Big Red got a crisp, clean makeover for her new life in her new home. Tell me what you think of her before and after!
I got so overzealous finishing this piece that I nearly forgot to take a before. I got one coat on the inside top of one of the cabinets when the light bulb went on and I quickly grabbed my cell phone. Welcome to my garage y’all.
You’ll just have to imagine her in all her red glory with the same knobs she’s sporting after her makeover, which are somehow prettier now that they pop off all of that white.
Pretty, right? White is so timeless and classic. I just never tire of it. I read someone (European) comment the other day that there’s a reason so much of Europe is covered in white. It just never gets old.
And you’d think covering all of that red would be difficult wouldn’t you? Not this time. I used one of my favorite paints, Fusion Mineral Paint. I love it for its amazing coverage, ease to work with and durability. I first introduced it here on my blog a couple of weeks ago when I shared the Farmhouse-inspired China Cabinet Makeover.
I know you’re going to ask, and I’d love to be able to tell you. What color is it? Well it’s one layer Lamp White (just as a primer color) and another part custom mix of Casement and Limestone. {Don’t you love the names of these colors?!}
You see, Big Red needed to match another piece. This piece was not like Big Red. Just painting two different pieces the same color doesn’t always make them match one another, especially when their substrates are different. Big Red’s being red. Really, really red. And the other one, which I’ll share with you soon, was wood. Mahogany to be exact. All my furniture friends are nodding their heads in understanding, we call those “Bleeders”. For the rest, just know that not all strains are created equal. Some of them will try to ruin your paint when you try and paint over them by bleeding through. Fun times. Always fun times.
But this is Big Red’s story and Big Red did really, really good going from red to white. Don’t you think? She’s so crisp and pretty. I hope she enjoys the beach and that she invites me to visit soon!
