From a Chest of Drawers to a Drawer Ottoman A Drawer Revival

So. You remember I told you about that drawer I removed from a chest of drawers because of it’s heavily carved flower motif, circa 1980? Well, this is the story of a Chest of Drawers – drawer – that became an ottoman.

In case you don’t remember, here’s the Cottage-style Chest of Drawers I completed last month. I removed that top drawer and replaced it with baskets because I wanted it to have a cottage-y feel and not seem so heavy. A coat of Maison Blanche paint in Vanille and I think I achieved just that.

But what to do with that drawer?
First thing’s first, that flower motif had to go! And go it did with some help from Maison Blanche’s Glacage – Embossing Creme’.
And as I’m covering up the flowers and adding some La Bonne Terre (also from the Maison Blanche paint line) I’m reminded of this amazing warehouse I photographed back in October of 2012.
We’d gone to the Southern Blogger’s Conference and on our last day got to do some major shopping before heading home. Something about the bay doors of this warehouse with all of it’s chippy paint and numbers…and you guys know how much I love typography! Well. It was my inspiration for this ottoman and I love how it turned out!
I love the perfectly imperfect texture of the Glacage Embossing Creme’. It is so reminiscent of that amazing warehouse in North Carolina.
Naturally I had to add typography style burlap.
A little tufting for good measure…
Some strategically placed distressing here and there…
And let’s talk for a minute about how much I love adding legs to stuff!
Did I mention the top opens for storage?
Yep. I think I like this drawer much better on its own. You?

Believe it or not, my husband and I bought 8 factory carts at an auction, and when we got there, the guy asked us if we wanted 10 NEW drawers–some cedar lined. (It was a furniture factory that went bankrupt.) We took ’em and DL said “what are we going to do with a bunch of drawers?” Well, here’s one answer!

That would also be a really cute dog/cat bed if you used a fluffy cushion instead!
