I haven’t always been a country girl, in fact, in a lot of ways, I’m still not. But I’ve always loved being outdoors. And if you’ve been around here even a minute you’ve probably picked up on my shameless affinity for all things ‘side of the road’.
While that usually means discarded bits of junk and broken furniture, it doesn’t stop there. It’s also my favorite source for fabulous and free floral arrangements. Don’t believe me? Let’s take a drive, shall we?
Now I know it doesn’t look like much at first, you might even imagine you hear banjos playing (you probably do but there’s only a slight chance you should worry) but look closer…
Now what do you see? I see gorgeous yellow flowers and flowing white and green that would make an incredible wreath.
Pop these beauties in a blue mason jar or milk bottle and you’ve got an adorable little arrangement that will have people asking, where’d you get those?
There is just something extremely magical about the eggplant purple of the stems on these.
They dry out beautifully and leave you with just as much color as you started with.
Every time I’m driving along and I see these tall, stately yellow ones blowing in the breeze I imagine them in a tall vessel at the center of my dining room farmhouse table. Simple, stately beauty.
You can thank this little guy for helping to make them that way.
Tuck these fuchsia berries in with some gorgeous green and you’ve got yourself one amazing pop of color.

Cottony white on long stems. Another stunner in the middle of my farmtable. Every time I look at these I want to make a wish!
All alone they might just look like brown and moisture sapped summer left-overs.
But what they really are is already dried and preserved for adding a touch of natural warmth to your bouquet.
I always knew there were two of these on the four-wheeler for a perfectly good reason.
So today I challenge you, not to spend a time. I dare you to look along the side of the road and not find something beautiful.
Leave the supermarkets and the pesticides behind and enjoy what nature has provided you. It’s all the inspiration you need to create stunning fall {& winter} arrangements, wreaths and vignettes… for free!
So the next time your out don’t forget to stop and smell the…weeds, the flowers and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Even if your only reward is time spent with a loved one, your stresses forgotten or a sweet smile like this one.
And the best part is, you don’t even need to have a green thumb. Nature did all of this work for you. So take some time to enjoy it and the beauty that becomes of it will simply blow you away.
