Full Room Furniture Revival – Reveal Part 1

B & A Sharon Furn

You might remember that I’ve been working on a full room revival in my SIL’s master bedroom {My brother lives there, too}. We started with some outdated but beautiful furniture that she was ready to toss.

She had some good arguments: ‘I’ve had it forever. I’ve more than gotten my money out of it.’ That kind of stuff.

Finally, I talked her out of it and she agreed so long as those decorative “shells” wouldn’t still be carved into her furniture once I was done.

Now, I could see some lovely potential with these shells. All it need was a little paint, some distressing. But they screamed, “I am old and outdated” to her so they had to go. And, in the end, I am so glad. I am in love with how it turned out!

So, whadya think? A major improvement, right!

Hi Jamie, Did you sand the pieces prior to painting them? I have the smaller table that I would like to do something similar with this weekend as a project! Thanks!

I really like the white. Our dresser has those pulls on it where the plaque thingys are attached to the drawers. How did you get them off?

    • Mrs. Veronica says

      She didnt merely covered them.

How did I get the embossed design off? Or the pulls?

I had to fill in the embossed design as the wooden appliques did not cover them completely. Not sure if that answers your question though?

My husband and I just bought a piece similar to this piece (in it’s “before” color), but we want to repaint similar to what you have done with this furniture. What all did you do to get this final product? Is it light sanding, wiping down, and repainting? Any tips?

My bedroom looks almost exactly like the before. I love, love, love the finished product. How did you get these results?

I have that exact set! Lea Furniture, purchased in 1985. I’ve been thinking of starting by changing the headboard. I’d also love to know the process you used to get these great results.

I just bought this exact set to refinish in gray for my daughters room and have been studying those seashells trying to figure out what to do about them. So you used wood filler to fill in the shell design and then added the medallion? Where did you buy the medallions from? I was going to paint the pulls similar to this image: http://blog.cuttingedgestencils.com/wall-stencils-for-house-and-home-diy-feature-wall.html

I have this same furniture set too! My parents bought it for me when I was a kid. I would LOVE to do something like this to it although my dad thinks it is so wonderful, I’m afraid I will break his heart if I paint it. Can we please get a little tutorial on this? Maybe if I make it look better than before he won’t be so heartbroken!

I would also love to have the instructions for this. I have an old set of furniture from my grandmother’s house that I would love to update just like this!

What type of paint did you use? Just painted my bedroom furniture white but still looks like it needs a finished look.
    Thanks

A chalk based paint would be ideal to recreate this look and this would be easier, especially for a beginner. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

How much paint did it take to cover all three pieces? I can’t wait to try this.

    Hey,
I have this exact dresser can you explain the steps you took to do this and what color paint you used?

  27. Kelly Trahan says

Hey Jamie! I’m having problems finding the la craie blog where the instructions are for this revival. Any suggestions on how to find it? Really wanting to do this for my daughters room with some old furniture my grandmother gave us. Thanks!

    • jamie says

      at

      Hi Kelly,

I am no longer selling the La Craie (only because a storefront is required and I no longer have one, not because I don’t still love it) that’s why you can’t find the page. Also, there weren’t really any instructions on doing these pieces exactly just using chalk/furniture paints in general. Sorry for the confusion. Any chalk based paint should do it! Good luck!
