It’s been years since I’ve even been in a boat and longer still since I’ve operated one. I don’t know much about boating or the open seas and I’ve never even been on a sailboat.
Still, I imagine that life can be much like the sea. You set sail on a picture-perfect day. The winds are just right, the water not too rough and even though you’re headed into uncharted territory, you know you’re headed in the right direction.
Then suddenly the winds change, the skies darken and you have to head back to shore. There comes a time when even the most seasoned sailor must change his course. Life as unpredictable as the sea.
Six months ago when we opened Nostalgia in just 2 weeks’ time my boat was headed into uncharted territory. The winds were perfect, my sails full and the water just right. I knew this voyage had been planned for me. Laid out by His perfect hands, with a perfect plan. So when the winds of change blew in, they caught me off guard and knocked me off course for just a little while.
Today, on my 37th birthday, it seems the right time to you tell you about saying goodbye to Nostalgia.
Birthdays. A day for making wishes, letting go of some dreams and grasping on to others.
So when my husband, possibly the most determined person I know, came to me and told me he’d been approached about going back to school for his Masters and a possible full-time position at our local state university, I knew my little boat was changing course. It was hard and I cried. But I knew the winds were again being stirred by His perfect hands. So I let go.
I will forever be grateful for this experience. Grateful for the phone call that started it all, “Have you ever thought about opening your own store?” and especially grateful that dreams don’t ever really die. They just lie dormant until you’re ready to live them again.
For all of the lovely people I got to meet, the friends I’ve made and the knowledge that I can do something greater – that dreams do come true.
I look forward to continuing to blog about my furniture redos and custom builds. I continue to accept custom work so if you have a piece that needs a revival I would love to work with you. Please feel free to contact me. We are also chronicling some major renovations to our home that we’ll be sharing in hopes of inspiring you in some DIYs of your own.
Thank you for reading and for supporting me and the dream that is Southern Revivals. I hope you’ll stick around and see where that little boat takes me next!
