Giving Your Guests A Forgettable Bathroom Experience

This post brought to you by Quilted Northern. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Southern Revivals.

Forgettable Bathroom Experience

You probably think I meant to say, unforgettable don’t you? When I was in Toronto I learned Canadians don’t call it a bathroom. Nope. They call it the Washroom. So classy, isn’t it? It doesn’t speak to what goes on in there, which is very clever, because when it comes to the bathroom what everyone really wants is for it to be a forgettable experience. When we remodeled our guest/boys’ bath I tried to keep anyone who’d be using the facilities’ comfort in mind. It’s important, isn’t it?

But I admit, I did overlook the comfort of certain bathroom….objects. These ill-fated bathroom residents often witness things they’d much rather forget. They aren’t so lucky as you and me.

I was incredibly proud of my pose-able hand sporting its, ‘I Love You’ sign – which was, apparently, once misconstrued as flashing a gang sign. Until I realized all of the unfortunate bathroom predicaments such an object must witness. And then it occurred to me, this hand probably isn’t saying, I Love You, as we enter. At all. That’s because we take comfort for granted.

How to Give Your Guests a “Forgettable” Bathroom Experience

Forgettable Bathroom Experience

Two of my biggest bathroom pet peeves as a visitor? A non-working door handle (which always seem to reside in a home with curious children) and no hand towel for drying your hands.

Make sure to provide your guests with a clean hand towel, soap and any other creature comforts you can think of. And for the love of bathrooms, please fix that wonky door knob and make sure it locks!

Let your guests know where they can find extra toilet paper, wipes and extra trash bags. Keep it well stocked. Nothing is worse than having a bathroom emergency as a guest and not being able to handle it discretely. We’ve all been there!

If you’re having overnight guests, be sure to provide them with the things they might need and keep them easily within reach. No one wants to rummage through your drawers, or your linen closet for that matter, looking for things they meant to bring but forgot.

Make sure it smells nice. We all know to keep the bathroom clean but we also know just how quickly they can become smelly. Fresh flowers won’t do the trick.  Candles are nice but it’s probably best to provide your guests with a discrete spray so that they can take care of any embarrassing odors. And make sure it’s handy! They don’t want to have to ask for it!

Don’t forget about your little guests. For me that’s easy because I have little ones using this bathroom daily. But if you’re frequently hosting people of the smaller variety, make sure they have easy access to the facilities. It makes the visit easier on them and cleaner for you at the end of their stay.

And last, but certainly not least, don’t forget about the underside of your toilet seat. Again, an easy one for me. But if you don’t already have a house full of boys be sure you’ve peeked under there recently. They last thing you want is for a guest to have to lift up that lid and find a stray…..well, you can image. Oh! And if you have curious children or pets, don’t let them follow your guests to the bathroom. Ten points to the first person to spot the cat!

And as for those ill-fated bathroom objects…I’m just glad they can’t talk, aren’t you?

“Pssssssst…….Up here!”

Forgettable Bathroom Experience

“Just wanted to let you know they’re watching you. There. I feel better.”
