I know what you’re thinking. WHY is she writing about grasshoppers? Of all things! But bear with me for just a minute, I promise there’s a point. I think.
Last Wednesday I had to make a grocery store run. I had both boys in tow. That means, quick in and quick out.
We loaded the cart with nothing but essentials, made our way to the counter and as I’m loading our stuff onto the conveyor belt, something catches my eye. Right there, on that little slick silver space just before the belt begins, is a grasshopper. Pointed straight at me. If he had leapt off, he would’ve landed right on top of my head.
Now, I’m not afraid of bugs. Not really. I don’t squish them, I set them outside. Except for roaches. I squish those. Well, I don’t. I make my husband do it. But other bugs, I scoop up and put outside. That doesn’t mean I want them to jump on me or scurry over me at warp bug speed. Nothing like a bug running loose on your body to give you a heart attack while you’re still in your 30s. But I digress.
So my primary concern was the safety of the poor grasshopper who’d gotten trapped inside the grocery store while probably still clinging to a half eaten vegetable. {If I’m losing you here with all the “poor bug talk” I swear you don’t have to like bugs to enjoy the post. Pinky promise! Hang in there.}
My secondary concern was, please don’t let him jump on me. If I’d had a container to scoop him up in we’d have taken him outside. As it was, he just sat right there while we loaded $67.34 worth of groceries onto the counter. He never moved and if grasshoppers blink, he never did that either. And that was the last we saw of the BiLo grasshopper.
Until we went to Harvey’s on Sunday. I kid you not. Second grasshopper. In a store. In the same week. He was right in the middle of the canned goods isle. Again, I lacked a container. Again, he maintained perfect, almost statue-like, composure and we parted ways.
It wasn’t until the following Tuesday on a trip to Lowe’s that I thought, WHAT is going on?! I was there to buy specialty light bulbs for a new fixture. I had looked everywhere for a 25 watt type G bulb.
Finally, in the upper left corner of the aisle where I can just barely reach standing on my tippy toes, are the bulbs I need. I grab a set out of the slot and as I’m bringing it down to put in the buggy I notice one small, but strange thing about this package. It had legs. So I flip it over and this is what I see.
Again, he stayed put. Allowing me to grab my phone for photographic evidence because surely no one would believe me otherwise. He stayed still long enough for me to discover that these were, in fact, NOT the right bulbs after all and calmly place the package back onto the shelf. I couldn’t get over it. Such a small thing but surely it’s strange? Can you chalk it up to pure coincidence?
It wasn’t until I showed my husband the picture that I noticed he was standing next to the word life. Now I was intrigued. Naturally I had to Google grasshoppers.
When the grasshopper appears to us we are being asked to take a leap of faith and jump forward into a specific area of life without fear. Usually that specific area is one that we have avoided and is often connected to change on a larger scale. This can represent a change in location, relationships, career or just in the way we perceive ourselves.
Grasshoppers can only jump forward….not backward, or sideways. So, when grasshopper shows up he could be reaffirming to you that you are taking the right steps to move forward in your current situation. Or it could be that he is telling you to go ahead and move forward, getting past what is hindering you. This is why grasshopper is the symbol of good luck all over the world. Grasshopper’s ability to connect and understand sound vibrations is why he is also a symbol of your inner voice. he could be telling you to trust yours.

So now I sort of feel like I have my very own Jiminy Cricket. Or at least his cousin. What’s your grasshopper trying to tell you ?
JACQUELINE RAMIREZ says
Yea so I was near a rock bed picking out rocks to paint. I felt a conk upside the head. It was a grass hopper he landed on the rock bed. he hopped a few times until he landed on the side walk and stood there for a while.
It was weird. because not only that, there was a butterfly near the rock bed. and a big dark colored bird feather. And two crows on someones car. All of that happened yesterday within minutes of each other outside. Then
today, I was on the other side of the lot. I was visited by a grasshopper again he was looking dead straight at me, When I spoke to him, it was like he was listening to me. Now I never seen grasshoppers this close and also a cricket landed on my picnic/yoga blanket.

A green grasshopper, flew on to my bed right next to me tonight. I picked it up and flung it in fear. I then got up and put on the lights and looked for it. I found it at the foot of the bed and it was MISSING A LEG!!! At first I prayed that I didn’t dismember it, then I took it up and placed it in the kitchen. What does this visitation mean? How it even got in is a mystery as the only window is always closed! Anyone who can help me understand this occurrence, please enlighten me!

This is all a bit spooky. I arrived here after googling “grasshopper symbolism” as I fell like I’m being followed by the little beggers.
Exactly a week ago my wife dumped me for a salsa dancer (sounds clichéd but absolutely true! Enough to make me cry and laugh at the same time!) Anyway, the day it happened I was devastated and headed back to our house (she was at her parents’). Lo and behold when I go to have a shower, there on the mirror is a massive bright green grasshopper. It was absolutely beautiful and just sitting there. Haven’t seen one in years.
Then, two days later I’m at a swimming pool and there on the edge of the pool is a massive grasshopper. Even bigger than the first but duller in colour. Obvs another species. It made me wonder whether there was any kind of spiritual meaning but gave it no further thought.
Then tonight I’m getting ready to leave work and right in front of me sat on the floor is another goddam grasshopper! He was a tiny fella though so I scooped him into my hand and let him out the door.
This is probably the first time I’ve commented on a blog but there seems to be something in this. Maybe it’s just coincidence but either way the idea of grasshoppers leaping forward is great advice I think for someone going through a breakup. I’m definitely going to take that advice. Maybe take some salsa classes!

Good luck! I hope you dance!

So today I’m leaving my college town to go back home, (2.5 hour commute) and when I come out to load up my last bag, I notice a green grasshopper crawling all over my car. It’s weird bc That reminded me that I remember seeing a dead grasshopper in my dream last night. I was thankful that he didn’t jump in my trunk bc it was still open when I putting my stuff up. I went to go get gas , and he stayed on my car all the way tower so I said to myself,” He will be my motivator to keep a safe speed limit so he has a safe ride.” I usually always zoom through that drive, and I’ve never had a problem with cops down so I’ve never had a concern. 30 minutes down the drive and i see the grasshopper walk out of view. (At this point I was watching him through my left rear mirror)Im thinking maybe it’s gone, and I’ll never know. So who cares? I started speeded, and minutes later, there’s a state trooper! I get pulled over doing 90 in a 70. I’ve heard that state trooper tickets are really expensive and hard to get out of! I was terrified, and I was shaking crying when the officer came up. I’ve already been having enough money problems. He decides to let me off with a. Warning . Before he left I asked if he noticed the grasshopper, he said he saw it when he walked up, but he didn’t see it anymore. I start back driving, and then the corner of my eye, the grasshopper has moved to my windshield!! It was truly a jump scare. I’m not a big person. I made sure to watch my speed to protect the grasshopper in hopes that he would make it with me to my house. He ended up letting go 2 hours and 15 minutes in! If only he would’ve held on for 15 more minutes. But I thought the grasshopper had to be some type of guardian Angel. It definitely did teach me a lesson.

Have to say your attitude is beautifully inspiring after having gone through something that most would let strip them of some amount of their manhood. Definitely sounds like its her loss for sure !.
I ended up here from Google search after i notice each time i turned around this same grasshopper was at my feet no matter how many times i brushed it away and even put it outside! I guess he is serious about getting my attention with the near heart attack each time i saw him unexpectedly. (Bugs freak me out) i have been dealing with great loss and severe verbal abuse from an ex who i believe to be a narc. Ive been struggling to keep it together, and i think this little guy is telling me to leap forward away from his fuckery and be happy bubbly me already! F his bullying.
Good luck! Thanks for reading my vent hahaha

I am going through exactly the same as you, dealing with losses from loved ones and trying to deal with someone who verbally abuses me. This morning i woke up happy for the first time in a bit and heard a noise like something hit the house and looked out the door and didn’t see anything, then it seemed like something told me to step out on the porch, then that was when i saw a feather falling from the sky, i bent over to pick it up and a leaf fell of a tree right in front of my face then,, I turned around and saw a grasshopper laying on my little table outside, which was right next to me at the time.. a couple nights before this all happened I dreamed of my brother that died.

Woke up this morning and found a grasshopper right there on my Window. At first i didn’t pay much attention to it, even when i hit it from inside it still doesn’t go away, so i waved it. But this afternoon i saw it still on my Window then i got a bit worried and scared. Then coming to goggle the meaning i searched for grasscutter instead of grasshopper, then i went outside and hit it hard, but thank God it didnt die, then it flew away. Coming back inside the house, i continued what i was doing, and then something whispers to me to search for the meaning and symbol of grasshopper. And after reading through all this,i really feel bad for hitting it. Thanks for the article, now i know better.

After I left work this afternoon, I pulled out my cell phone and started to answer a text. Out of nowhere, a grasshopper landed right in the middle of the screen! I love animals of all sorts (like you, not too crazy about cockroaches), so I wasn’t scared, just intrigued. He sat there on my phone for a good minute or so, and we looked at each other. I said hello, and got up close to him so I could get a good look at his face and his little feelers moving around. I was just starting to wonder if I should try to walk somewhere green (I work in the middle of a downtown area, not a tree or patch of grass for a few blocks in either direction), he jumped/flew away. There are several big changes I’ve been thinking about making in my life, but I think I’m going to need another few grasshoppers to show up before I’ve got the courage to make my leap. Thanks for sharing this!

Wow! I absolutely loved reading this.
When I got off work last week I went outside to BBQ some meat for Dinner for My Fiance and Myself. I was in and out of the house prepping the rest of the dinner along with checking on the meat. I have two dogs that were following my around as this was going on. I finally got back into the kitchen, and as i was slicing some veggies on the cutting board i saw something on my foot and I screamed bloody murder… then what i thought was a spider was on my pant leg.. still screaming at the top of my lungs the dogs staring at me in confusion, I saw that it was a grasshopper. I do believe in signs, good joo joo, good omens, etc. after the grasshopper jumped off my leg I took a glass mason jar( with any bug i find i save them all) and a piece of paper and put him outside on the grass. I was looking to see if grasshoppers like lady bugs are good luck if they land on you. I am in the process of selling my house with my fiance and moving to a bigger house with a better school district. I have been questioning my fiance whether this is the right decision right now because there is so much going on. after seeing this post this just confirms that selling the house and moving forward in our new adventure together is a good thing that was meant to be. Thank you for sharing!

Last night in the 90 degree weather, I was turning off the water to my pool and I found a grasshopper at my back door where I had come out of, I have never seen them down here, I picked him up and placed him in my lime tree pot and took my baby to bed.
Today I went to my sons first pediatric dental appointment and there was another grasshopper in the office next to our chair when we were waiting for the doctor! The assistant told me, this must be good luck! It intrigued me to look up grasshoppers.

So happy to of stumbled across your blog in pursuit of my grasshopper symbolism research as I love your DIY projects and share many similarities with you and most likely never would’ve found your site if I wasn’t looking up the meaning of grasshoppers – so thanks to grasshoppers, I found you! 🙂 My grasshopper story: Now almost 29, I don’t recall seeing grasshoppers since I was a little girl playing outside in the grass. Even though I’m an avid outdoor adventurist, camp and hike in nature often and live on a beautiful plot of forested land, I have not crossed paths with grasshoppers in all of my adult life until these last few weeks. First, a giant grasshopper was found on the pendent light of my kitchen which was so odd to me because I haven’t seen one in person for so long let alone inside my home. I felt it may of been a sign then, but shrugged it off, didn’t give it much thought and asked my husband to remove it since I didn’t want to risk hurting it and I’m not good at catch and releasing bugs. Next at a graduation, I found a baby grasshopper sitting on a table looking directly at me. Strange I thought, but I shrugged it off again. But last weekend I went camping and saw multiple grasshoppers throughout the weekend. After so many years not seeing these guys, I just couldn’t shrug it off anymore which brings me now to researching the symbolism. The definition you shared is so spot on that it’s creepily accurate. For most of my 20s I have been avoiding my hearts desires professionally and intuition for far longer than I’d like to admit, refusing to take the leap of faith towards my dreams due to ridiculous fear and lack of my belief in myself, along with stupidly feeling pushed to follow the status quo vs. my unconventional dreams and career choices. Now nearing my 30s this year I’ve decided enough is enough and have been reacquainting myself to the voice of my inner/true self and taking the fearless, bold action steps towards my dreams regardless of what anyone thinks and since summer began this year, I’ve witness the change of me turning into a new person, the person I’m meant to be and my inner and outer world couldn’t be more fun and exciting and joyful to experience and live in. But admittedly at times, the illusion of fear and self doubt pops up and though I’ve done really well to ignore it and take the risks anyways, it would be a lie to say that those negative thoughts don’t bring me down or make me worry at times. If the multitude of grasshoppers that I’ve seen truly symbolize the meaning that you shared not only do their presence perfectly fit my current chapter in my life but are a beautiful reminder that as long as I am truly listening to myself and am following my heart that I AM on the right path and that I must continue to believe and trust in myself and life and surrender to the outcome. What a beautiful sign to keep moving forward and just what I needed to reaffirm that I am exactly where I need to be at this very moment. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to further getting to know you through your blog <3

I loved your post. For me grasshoppers have been special messengers. The first time a grasshopper visited me was in my apartment in Brooklyn right after my mortgage fell through at the last minute and I was about to give up on purchasing our family’s dream home. I was devastated but – a grasshopper in Brooklyn – I saw it as a sign to move forward. My mortgage was approved by another lender in ten days with a better rate! I dont recall the circumstances around the second visit but the third was after I had lost my job and was unemployed for over a year. I was really feeling down when my children started telling me about the grasshopper that was making the rounds in our house. I found him stuck in a spider web and after freeing him, I was convinced that something good was on the horizon. It was – my dream job.
jamie says
Oh how I love this story! It is so inspiring to me. I’m going through one of those rough patches myself but so I stay on the lookout for my grasshopper. I’m getting a little concerned that he might be caught in a spider’s web at this point, though. 🙂

Just found you while googling “Grasshopper is following me” – I hate bugs and all creepy crawlies. It’s 03:30 am in Vienna, Austria and I was downstairs working on the laptop and heard a light ticking sound. We only use silent clocks at home so I knew it wasn’t that. Look to my right and spotted him! A grasshopper! Third time in three weeks! How do they even get in? Also they always show up when I am alone. Good news is one or two days after they show up, I get fantastic news. I am so scared of them though. Lying in bed now hoping he wont come upstairs. No sleep for me tonight. 🙁 Need to wait till the hubby wakes up in the morning to let it outside otherwise I won’t be able to go back into the living room and I have the day off tomorrow! I walked out of a convenience store and a grasshopper jumped on my arm. I swooshed him or her off and forgot about it. Driving home he got back on my arm so as I reacted he jumped out of the window. He must have stayed on my clothing til he exited out of the window. I pulled over and asked google what it means when a grasshopper attaches to your arm, twice. Luck and keep moving forward, stay focused. Listen to your inner voice.

This morning at work I found a grasshopper just chilling on the top ledge of my laptop. I was a little freaked, but thought nothing of it. However, on my way home from work as I was driving, a little guy who looked just like the one this morning jumped from somewhere onto the outside of my windshield, right in front of my face. And he stayed there the whole way home and jumped away as soon as I got out of the car. Two months ago, I lost my fiancé very unexpectedly- after reading your post, I believe it was him trying to tell me that I’m doing okay and moving on the right path in life and will continue to be okay. Lately I have been seeing grasshoppers cross my path. Last night while walking to my front door, one was standing very still and unmoved right in the middle of my path to the front door. This was the 3rd time I had come in contact with a grasshopper this week. So I figured I would google meaning of seeing grasshoppers and came across this article. I truly believe God is using this spirit animal to send me a message to keep moving forward and not backwards. This year and previous year have been extremely challenging for me financially and but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and have been receiving spiritual confirmations and numerical synchronicities consistently for which I once thought were just coincidences but have come to the realization that, there are no coincidences. There is a reason and a purpose for everything, even the grasshoppers I have been seeing cross my path.
So thank you for sharing your story. It is even more confirmation to me that I am on the right path! 🙂

As I drive out of my daughter’s school this morning, I notice a locust on my bonnet. Initially I’m ignorant as I think it will fly off as I speed of to work. The locust doesn’t move, infact it just changes position from sideways to facing me then the other side as well.
I switch off the radio and chat to the locust, thanking my spiritual guides for the lovely message and for them to assist me in interpreting the message.
I drive in to the garage to top up fuel, chat to the attendant and completely forget about my friend locust on my bonnet. As I drive off,my “good friend locust”, am sure I can call him that now as he has accompanied my all this way, is still on my bonnet. I so wish I talked “locust” to hear the amazing message he has for me.
Sitting at work, my mind keeps on veering to the meaning of my friend locust on my bonnet. I thought he would fly off the minute I drove off, but he didn’t. I would dare not shush him/her as I have grown to love and respect animals.
Thank you Angels for the message.

Noticed when I got in my car there’s a grasshopper sitting on my hood. Figured it would jump off when I start driving. Turns out it never did. Bugs freak the hell out of me but I never kill them always go out of my way to put them outside where they belong. But for some reason this time I figured it would fly off at some point when I reach high speeds on the highway. You are not going to believe that bugger held on tight until I got home 30 min drive speeds of over 100kms. Soon as I got close to home before I entered the underground I was going to release him into nature instead of the underground parking where he wouldn’t be able to get out worried he might die. When I got out of my car he jumped off on his own. Thank god!
So I really needed to know what grasshoppers represented and what it means to have an encounter with one as I did. Any other bug would have blew off cause of the high speed but this guy stuck to the car hood. Quite fascinated by the whole thing. So I came across your article when I googled. What you wrote about it is bang on what’s going on in my life. Just broke up with my bf and it was difficult break up but now I know what it represented. That grasshopper was a sign and your article confirmed everything was bang on. Just want to say I am very grateful to have read your article. Thanks so much for bringing clarity and such accurate insight. The grasshopper was the messenger and you put it into prospective ?

I don’t know how old this post is but I thought it was very timely and had to share with you, as I have had two visits from our little green almost translucent friends, about a month apart. I was beginning to think we had a sudden and mysterious infestation.
I know they were not one and the same because… (and I have to admit) my dislike of anything buggie… one was splatted under a newspaper and the other was left swimming in a pool of RAID. (I know… after reading this post I really do feel dreadful!) But you just don’t expect to find those type of bugs in heat deprived UK. The first one was singing so loudly, I was listening to it for about a good hour, thinking it was part of the nature programme I was watching until I turned the volume down on the TV and noticed the singing was even louder. I’m three storey’s up so you’re not expecting to find a Cricket?? Grasshopper?? (not sure which was which) on the arm of my sofa!
The second one I was convinced was outside but still, a little too close for comfort I was thinking, went into the kitchen to make a cuppa and there it was on the kitchen wall.
Had I known they were messengers, I would have found some other way to send them on their way. Do you think my message has been revoked?

I actually just had a grasshopper when i was at the barn jump on my leg, I didn’t notice it until i went to leave and head home. I am in the process of getting a new job as well as several other things. I actually still have it, in a container on my desk as i was going to let it go, but i don’t want anything happening to it as grasshoppers are not looked good at in the state where i live. So it will be my good luck while i make the transition to a new job. It also didn’t want to leave me, as it kept jumping around my car, so its going to stay with me until it passes away. Also its not the first time i’ve had grasshoppers come to me out of nowhere they seem to come when i’m more stressed then normal about something and need a little bit of luck on my side.

Grasshoppers are my connection to my dad who passed away last year. During our last vacation, a grasshopper landed on his arm and he was so happy as it just stayed there. My dad was at my house during his last days for hospice care and a grasshopper appeared in the room where he was. It’s the first time I’ve seen one inside our house where we’ve lived for 25 years. After my dad passed, the hospice nurse called me and told me that a grasshopper landed on her. I saw a grasshopper inside my office building on the 11th floor and my officemate wondered how it got there. My sister parks in an open lot and she sees grasshoppers all over her car. I also experience my dad’s nearness through butterflies and cardinals. My mom who passed away 6 years ago uses peacock as her sign for me. I laugh because peacocks are beautiful and elegant and my dad uses a grasshopper. They’re both symbols of new and eternal life.

This is so strange! The same thing happened to me but I was on vacation in Africa. In our lodge there was a grasshopper. I opened the door for him to leave and he would not go outside. There were several other times I saw grasshoppers during the trip. The last straw was – we were on safari in the middle of no where. I was sitting in the back seat of the truck and there was a grasshopper on my lap. My husband is the one that noticed it. After that I thought to myself this has to be a sign and as soon as I got home I google what is the meaning of a grasshopper. Definitely looking forward!

That is a brown katydid on the light bulbs. Different totem meaning than grasshopper. 🙂

Thank you for posting! I had an encounter with a HUGE grasshopper on my way home from work last night. He was on my windshield ALL THE WAY HOME. We’ve recently moved and I’ve been freaked out about being able to afford rent and everything else (single mom).. and now I know that my decision, although scary, was the right one! Thanks for this. I’ll be looking for more of my little good luck grasshoppers more and more now.

A couple of days ago, a grasshopper came and clung to the bug screen in my room at my Mum’s house- It didn’t move for a whole day. It was not injured, just calm and staying out in one spot. I was so moved by it’s presence (I’ve been going through a very very rough time, breaking up after eight years with someone, moving countries and thinking of changing careers) and so I googled what it means to have this grasshopper around, and was led here. I feel sad he/she is gone now! I wish I’d known to connect with the grasshopper more. So much to ask! 🙂

Hi Naomi,
It sounds like you got the message your heart was looking for. Wishing you much success in all your new life changes!

Thank you so much for your post! And I really appreciated reading everyone else’s stories because it kind of validates my experiences. I am a kindergarten teacher and I wouldn’t really have taken much notice about grasshoppers except that these experiences happened in close timing to one another. One day at school a grasshopper flew onto my classroom door and of course the kids got all excited. I tried to relocate it into the garden. Then when I was at my home a grasshopper flew onto my door while I was entering. Then when I was in my bedroom somehow a grasshopper flew into my bedroom and stayed on the walls and it appeared that he was dying but he didn’t leave my room. All of this prompted me to search the internet for the meaning of grasshoppers appearing in your life. I am definitely going through a life change in my marriage of 20 plus years. I am leaving what was an emotionally, verbally and at times physically abusive marriage and getting ready to move out into a place of my own. Although I have wonderful supportive friends and have been seeing a therapist regularly to help me with this phase of my life, I have had many doubts about whether I’m making the right decision. Reading your post and everyone’s comments has been very reassuring. Thank you so much!

Hi Susy,
Wishing you all the best in your transition. It definitely sounds like you deserve a fresh start! Peace and love to you!

Hey ladies, love all the comments! I had the oddest experience today as I hopped in my car, I saw a hopping thing jump at my phone. Little did I know it was a BABY GREEN GRASSHOpper before my very eyes. I am shocked it let me be its friend. I heard it calling to me, now he said, “do the right thing and you’ll be on the right path”. I never forgot it. I kid you not it told me that, ever since I was a filly I could connect to the trees and faires because actually hehe I am a half fairy. (shoutout furry community). I sense the vibrations and feelings that nature provides, I have always been an outdoorsy person. I am a strong believer in medicinal tree sap, I can sit on a rock all day meditate like nobody’s business! Hope you my experience I recommend the sap I’ve taken since I was 12, don’t if the doctors yell at your parents for drinking sap it actually helps a lot…. doctors smoctors.

A grasshopper happened to jump into our garage just as the door closed. I didn’t want him trapped in the garage, so I scooped him up and carried him outside. I released him on a small tree of my neighbor’s that hangs over our fence.
The next morning, I let my dogs out into the yard. As I was watching them, I felt something hit my face, right on the lips. From the weight of it, I knew it had to be a large insect. It didn’t fly away, but fell somewhere in front of me. I didn’t see what it was, but felt strongly it was a grasshopper. I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be funny if it was the same grasshopper as it was about the same size as the one I saved and I was about 6′ away from the tree.
Upon reading your post, it made sense. I have been unmotivated and anxious about returning to school as I am 56 y/o and have fibromyalgia, which makes planning difficult. I guess I should just face my fear and move forward. It’s not often you get kissed by a grasshopper!

I have a green katydid stuck in my garage. It is currently sitting on my garage door and will not set it self free. The first time I saw it I was sitting in the garage reading and it was sitting on the fan. As I went to go turn the fan off to go inside is startled me and I knocked the fan over. Two days later I went to my vehicle to get water that I purchased from the trunk and it’s sitting on my garage door. I open the garage and it has been sitting there for the past hour. I googled katydid and came across your post. I went back to college and will graduate this year. I am trying to decide what to do with my life. I’m 50 years old and started my own accounting company that I have been working since 2006 but I’m tired of doing accounting, my degree is political science and I love law. I’m scared to make that change. Thank you for this post:-)

So for me this is very interesting, last year I started seeing what looked like 2 baby grasshoppers on my car and no matter how fast I was driving they would still be there. A month later I had a serious car crash which I was lucky to walk away with out a scratch, recently I have purchased a new car and guess what?! Last month there was again what looked like 2 baby bright green grasshoppers on my car, now unfortunately I think I have lost one due to it ending up on my head inside my car, I accidentally pulled one of its legs of but then placed it back on the roof of my car but there’s still one now that is still with my car. This is very strange for me as I live in London, England which is not known for its grasshoppers what so ever. I have a lot of things always going on in my life but I just can’t pin point on what they are trying to tell me or whether they are just my good luck charms keeping me safe whilst driving as I do drive a lot. There definitely isn’t a nest near my house/drive as all my greenery is fine and from what I’ve read there would be a lot more then just two. Any further information on this subject would be amazing as this is the only thread I have found so far.
Sean says
Just to add to be clear, my grasshoppers don’t just come and go they are always there and no matter where they jump of they end up back on the safe haven of my car

Hello,
I went to whataburger this morning. Upon getting in the Jeep, its a soft top but the windows are not on, although top is. Anyhow, im ready to eat my jalapeno cheddar biscuit, so I dial in the radio to NPR, KERA RADIO, and this detail is important because where the radios is located in the dash.. Well that means I had to look at the dash, there was nothing there.. A few seconds later, I’m enjoying the biscuit and decided to drive to park, as I went to put it in gear, I jumped, startled because there was a huge grasshopper right there on the dash. Looking right at me. I talked to it, asked where it came from. And asked it to hold on a sec, we were almost at the park and it would be safe free to jump out. Well on the way to the park it made one hop and landed on a white towel facing the right window, which is when I said ‘just a sec and it’ll be safe’ so then as I turned right onto the street of the park and I looked down, it vanished.
This felt like it had meaning. Which is why Im here. Amen. It suddenly appeared and suddenly disappeared. I really didn’t want to find out, because locust eat things up i was afraid of the significance. But I’m thankful I checked it out. Sometimes the spiritual life can be overwhelming. God bless. Ty.

I had an encounter with a grasshopper. This hopper sat on my windshield from my work to my grandmother’s house to my house (about 20 mins) while stopping and going. But he didnt jump off! I had to run to the gas station and grocery. He stayed on my windshield the whole time! Finally when we came out from grocery shopping he was no longer there….I took it as a sign and looked it up too! It’s amazing what a small creature signifies.

I’ve had good confirmations from butterflies when I know that I am making the right steps for my future and that I’m on the right path, same with dragonflies (which I love them so much because they always land on me). I came back from being out of town and lately for the past 3-4 days, there has been this huge grasshopper on my window. At first we starred at each other and then afterwards I would have my daughter look at it so she can it up close. I thought it was only on my window to eat the bugs but after that 1st day, it still would come back, even when there are no bugs on my window. Not sure what it’s trying to tell me but this article gave me good hope and strength. I have been nervous about my classes because I’m a senior in college and also I have been pushing back on relationship because I don’t want to get hurt. Maybe it’s telling me everything will be alright and to have faith and that is what I will do. **I need to get a tattoo of these creatures because they have helped me get by when I was lost and scared about decisions I made for myself and my child**
jamie says
I’ve had the same experience with dragonflies. They would land on my belly, several all at once, when pregnant with my second child. Every time I went outside! Good luck on your senior year. You’re going to be great!

I have a grasshopper that hangs around my front door he or she comes and goes. When I came outside Thursday to get some fresh air it was there looking at me and I hadn’t noticed it until I looked up. Before I moved where I am now I had a Hummingbird come to my window throughout the day as I was working and when I would try to get a picture he would fly away lol every single time as if it knew what I was doing. When I lived im NC I would get a visit from a ladybug in my window. Not sure what any of this means I just find it ironic.

I found you through google looking for the symbolic meaning of a grasshopper. One was in our tree about three weeks ago, which normally wouldn’t be a big deal in summer, but there hasn’t been a grasshopper around this house for twenty years or so, ever since the surrounding properties were sold for apartments. (I took about 20 pictures of it.) The patterns and details are fantastic! So why I’m here is the other night a small light green grasshopper was walking on a frying pan on the cold stove. I put it outside and it didn’t seem to want to leave me. We hung out for about 15 minutes. It stayed on my sleeve so I took my jacket off and sat with the little bug. The dog came outside so I left the grasshopper in the softest grass in the yard. It was sweet. P.S. We have the same opinion and feelings regarding bugs. 🙂

I was driving on the fwy driving from Moreno Valley heading to Bellflower CA and all of a sudden a massive Grasshopper landed on the hood of my car it was on the hood for along time starring at me and enjoying the ride. I got scared and drove a little faster and jerkinking from side to side but it never got off. Then it just went inside the hood and I thought it got inside the car … so I’ve been wondering what did that mean I haven’t seen a grasshopper in years… please input if you can.

Why “he”? Are all creatures male? Why not say “it”? Or even “she”? That would be a refreshing change, not centering everything around the male and erasing the female. We women especially need to stop doing this.

Ok, so I’ve created a brand new product, it took 5 years of loneliness trying to put an idea I imagined onto paper, when I finally did I gave it to a manufacture and later was told I have to build this myself, three years later I achieve but the big question loomed how am I going to sell it.
As if the last 5 years was not difficult,
Mind you I was already thinking how to sell it and to be honest I was screwed. I threw all my money into this, my car rego expires my license expires I’m months behind in a personal loan and my credit card, I’m months behind in rent to be very honest I’m dead in the water but I have fantastic new developed product but it has killed me to get to this position.
And posting stuff online does not
Guarantee success and mind you I’m out of time.
Then it hit me, the perfect way to sell.. we’ll I couldn’t see any way this could fail beside I don’t have to pay for anything and I can serious cash but also I have to step in this direction or else because I’m dead in the water.
So I called my business partner who might I might also add invested considerable of amount money and who is also looking for returns on his investment. Low and behold as soon as I got off the phone I look up and there’s this massive brown grass hopper on one of products, now I am all for nature, everything deserves a honest shot at life. Life is difficult enough as it is.
now I’ve done so much dirty jobs and hard labour covered in complete filth that it does not bother me to pick a cockroach up with my bare hands and take it out side, I’ve experienced such hard times, there’s nothing more worse in life then having no food.
So obviously I didn’t kill it but it was huge and in perfect condition.
It was in my work garage which is pretty much always closed so how it got in I have no idea. So yes I’m doubling down now. I found the grasshopper today and I’m selling tomorrow

I also found grasshopper in my under construction house.
I feel so lucky to found this animal on the wall.
It’s my dream to build my own house so we have the privacy that we want to enjoy with my kids and my wife.
I know it’s a forward move when I decided to built a house.
This post is quiet true for me.
Thanks for this.

I had a very interesting and a spiritual experience with a grasshopper. I am a pastor of a church and also the leader of a spiritual movement that God has given me. I had went with this vision that God had given me And I had invested a lot of time and money in Promoting it. On the day of the event I was sorely disappointed with the turn out. It was supposed to be a two day visit on the second day I was crushed by The lack of attendees. This was also my husband‘s birthday and we went out to eat at a restaurant. Upon leaving the restaurant I saw this grasshopper on the hood of his jeep. I hardly noticed it because I was still grieving about the event that appeared to have falied. My thought about the grasshopper was that he would move once the car was starting to move but he didn’t. He stayed fixed to the hood of the car. I said to myself when my husband hits the freeway and he will be driving 80 mph I said I know for sure that he will be blown off the car. But he stayed affixed to the hood of the car all the way to our house which was about 10 miles away. We got out of the car and went into the house leaving him on the top of the hood. Later on I begin to think about that and I googled it to discover that the grasshopper can only move forward.. He does not move backwards he does not move sideways only forward. I knew that this was God’s way of letting me know that I should go forward. That I should proceed with the vision. This I have done and God is really blessing the “Generation3G movement”.

Last night was the first time I dreamed of one of the hugest grasshoppers I’ve ever seen in a grocery store. He was in one place and this woman went over to him and they started talking. The grasshopper had a male voice and appeared to be an old soul… WOW!!! Thank you for the insights. I’ve brought out of that dream that I’m aligned with my spirit and ready to soar to new heights… Bless you and your grasshopper insights… I feel extremely blessed and lucky beyond measure…

I knew there was a meaning to my grasshopper friend. I had to look it up because its been on my mind for a few days. I was heading to work one night. I live in Brooklyn NY and work in long Island. I’m getting myself together in my car and I notice a grasshopper sitting on the hood of my car. I almost got scared but I said to myself, it will blow away when I start driving. As I’m driving he position himself as he was ready for the drive. Driving towards the highway he was hanging on strong. I said to myself when I get on a highway it’s like driving faster is going to blow away. I begin to speak from 50 close to 75 miles per hour. He did not Let go. You had a good grip on a car. The state on the whole ride all the way until I got some my job. My car was still run and I want to go clock in and came back to my car he was still there. I drove up to where my location is and I Parked the car he turned around to look at me and we stared at each other for while I waved and said Hi how you doing I went to go grab my phone to take a picture but he flew away. I know I Wasn’t going to see him again but I know I brought Him to a new place and I met a new friend he was very special To me. Where I live is not a good neighborhood and Im always talk about moving and leaving. I just research grasshopper and came across this page. Thank you for sharing you story. Apparently there’s a lot of people with stories to tell. This was a great read!!!

Hi Jamie!
This post made me laugh quite a bit 💜. While digging in my storage for info needed to move forward and take a leap of faith with the career direction I am getting into. I saw Jiminy Crickets’ other cousin, lol. He was chilling outside of our storage door, it didn’t move at all – so I said hey to him and continued getting what I needed. I knew it was a sign from spirit so I googled the meaning of grasshopper spirit animal! Everything Ive been journaling and asking for guidance on was confirmed! I did a tarot reading this morning and it also connected the meaning of a grasshopper. I am where Im supposed to be!

Like most, I came to this page when searching for meanings of grasshopper “appearances.” My husband & I lost our 16yr old daughter a few years ago. Every Sunday after church, we visit her gravesite (which is right next to the church) to either freshen up the flowers in the vase or replace them with new ones. We go to do this yesterday & as I pulled out the wilted flowers, we saw not one but two rather sizeable grasshoppers clinging to the greenery (which oddly was in pretty decent shape given the rest of the arrangement had to be discarded). I mean they were BIG! We put the greenery back in the vase (still with the grasshoppers attached) & decided to come back later to put new flowers there. We have had various “signs” over the past 3 years between birds, butterflies, dragonflies, etc. we have interpreted as God’s way of letting us know our daughter is okay, but had never seen anything like this. Not sure what the message is supposed to be, but we’re certain there’s something to it!

Today, Labor Day Monday 9/6/2021 being at home for the holiday, I decided to go around the house and do my bug spray treatment that I do every 6 months (inside the house, by myself) I do not like bugs. I grew up traumatized in Puerto Rico with huge flying cockroaches, and huge grasshoppers, and many other bugs that I am scared of, even now as an adult. So while going around I stood by my back door (I’m inside the house) to spray around the frame when I see a large green grasshopper on the door frame outside. I stopped to look at it, and the same as in your stories, it stood still. I went to grab my cell phone to take a picture through the door window but when I returned, it jumped off and away. I decide to look it up. And the first result was yours. So after reading it, all I have to say is this. About 2 weeks ago I went on a job interview. I like my current job, and I love my new boss. But I am tired of the drama & gossip in the office with my peers. I know I will most likely find this anywhere I go, but It usually takes time before I begin to notice it and experience it. That is when I know it is time for me to move on, for my peace of mind. Next week I am having my follow up 2nd interview, AND on top of that, the same organization (a conglomerate of 3 companies working together) called me for an interview on one of the other companies. I was beyond myself! This manufacturing co now has called me to interview on 2 opportunities! So I had called the hiring mgr from the 1st one and told her. She said: “I encourage you to check it out, But know the opportunities here are good, all 3 companies are working together for the same goal and are good to work for. And believe you are a great fit. And you will be happy.” I was dumbfounded. At first I thought, no, I am gong to my 2nd interview with the 1st co (within the conglomerate) and decline the interview for the 2nd. But then something happened. The 2nd co still sent me a reminder, by text and via email. So I guess I am going to both… And I hope that te leap forward to either of these companies is a good decision and a blessing for my life. To me, the visit from this green grasshopper today only means I need to take a chance, and go forward. Wish me luck.

I started noticing a grasshopper in various locations outside of my workshop/garage for several days in a row and took care not to step on it or drive over it because I believe all life is precious. I told my wife about it and she doubted it was the same one. (We live on five acres in the country.). Just for the heck of it I got some Whiteout and slowly reached down for it. The grasshopper let me pick him up without trying to get away or squirm and I put a small white dot on his back. Now, days later, my wife agrees it’s the same one that has been hanging around the whole time. I squat down and have conversations with it and it has no fear of me.
Now we’re heading back to our Arizona home (from western PA) and I’m worried the little guy will freeze to death. I know that is the way of Mother Nature, but what if I take it to AZ with me for the winter? Will that upset the workings of the cosmos?
PS: I lost my father last year, miss him very much, and am wondering if this is some kind of communication from ‘beyond’.

Omg, grasshoppers keep showing up in my kitchen, after about the 4th or 5th one, I decided to do a google search of what do grasshoppers symbolize and I came across your post. When I read about yours being next to the word life, I remembered that this one (and at least one other) was hanging out on our spoon holder on the stove. I immediately went over to see what it said because I couldn’t remember exactly,….it says “Life is short, lick the spoon”!!!! and I got FULL BODY CHILLS to see him standing next to the word LIFE! AHHHH Wish I could attach my pic here!
