Big Boy Room Reveal | A Modern Revival

Well here it is! The nursery to big boy room reveal. The first of our 12 projects in 12 months. It’s a tick off my checklist on The Revival House. And it was a fun one!

{Find the Fox Pillow here}

Here’s the nursery before. Basic tan builder walls and the mandatory cuteness-factor animal on the wall.

And I loved it at the time.

How-to Make a Bedframe for Antique Metal Headboard & Footboard
But then kids grow up and tastes change.
And you find a perfect little antique metal headboard and footboard for $20 and you know immediately what you have to do with it.
The only problem is, there’s no frame. So you have to figure out How-to make a bedframe for an antique metal headboard & footboard.
It was time for change on the walls as well. A little Frog Tape paired with Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore made the walls just as cute but definitely more grown up and modern.
I LOVE this color. Love.
And I cannot get enough of arrows these days. It’s one of my on-trend modern obsessions.
Custom built Bookshelf Makeover
One of the first things we did for the baby’s nursery was build him his very own bookshelf just like big brother’s. Then I promptly painted it green!
See how I made it over in just 10 mins, here.
From Nursery to Big Boy Room Wardrobe
And that wasn’t the only thing I painted green. You’ll never believe, where I found this piece and you’ll be shocked at how easy it was to get this finish over the top of that green.
See the Nursery to Big Boy Room Wardrobe Makeover here.
One of my boys’ favorite nursery rhymes, Row, Row, Row Your Boat – this subway art sign I found at HomeGoods for $19.99.
Grandpa gave us this for the new big boy room.
A print from my friend from Motley Lane Moasics. A print of one of her original mosaics  – A Motely March.
Anthropologie Typography Chest of Drawers Makeover
My favorite piece in the whole room is this Anthropologie inspired typography chest of drawers makeover.
I originally made over this old pine chest of drawers to sell but I fell in love with it as soon as it was done. It was by pure happenstance that I got to keep it. It’s perfect in here.
via Pottery Barn
These curtain panels from Pottery Barn have some adorable grosgrain ribbon detail but they retail between $79 – 99 per panel.
I ended up making mine with a 14.99 panel from IKEA (that came in a two pack!) and $2 worth of grosgrain ribbon from Walmart.
Remember how I told you I love arrows?
I truly, truly do. And these are no exception.
These amazing arrows are made even more amazing by knowing they’re handmade. These were custom made just for our new big boy room. You can get your own, here.
Remember that junking trip I took to Cherry Hill Antique Mall in Monroe, GA? That’s where I found this old printer tray for just $7. I’ve repurposed it here to hold some favorite trucks, cars and trains.
There are still a few things I would like to do in here. A little rug, maybe, a step-up for helping little legs get into this big boy bed a little easier and I already have an ephemera animal head on the way for the wall.
But it’s a proud space for our new big boy and he isn’t the only one who finds it comfy and calming.
What do you think? Do you find it as comfy and calming as we do?

Love the room! How did you attach the ribbon to the curtain?

Thank you! I actually made the duvet cover with sheet sets from Kmart and TJ Maxx. The red dot was from Kmart and the blue stripe from TJ Maxx. I also made the pillows with another navy blue sheet set and added upholstery webbing. I bought one pillow from Kmart but them modified it with the upholstery webbing to match the others.
