Just in case you missed the news, we have a new big boy in the house! We finished making the frame for his antique metal big boy bed first. Then I moved on to his wardrobe chest of drawers combo. It got a healthy dose of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Shutter Gray and some marvelous layering of waxes. Here’s what it looked like before…
Funny story about this piece, we found it at the dump. This is a picture of it just minutes after we took it off the truck. I almost gave myself whiplash the day I drove by and saw this gem sitting by the trash bins. In. the. trash. Can you believe that??
Then I painted it this color. Forgive me, for I knew not what I did!
It was also before I really started painting furniture so it’s just straight paint. Nothing fancy. That was over 3 yrs ago.
Around the time we were ready to make the transition from nursery big boy room I was working on this Anthro Inspired Typography Chest of Drawers for my store and I knew this was the direction I wanted to in with the new big boy room. {Funnily enough, I wound up buying this piece for the room, too!}
Both pieces were done in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Shutter Gray and layered in all 3 waxes. First a coat of the clear Furniture Wax, followed by some strategically placed Antiquing Wax with a little White Wax thrown in for good measure and awesome highlights.
I just love this stuff!
It reminds of edge burning in old photos…
I chose these cast iron look pulls to go with the rusty patina of his antique metal bed.
You can see how we built a frame for the headboard and footboard and also how I sealed in the amazing patina, here.
I was pleased with how well it mimicked the first piece I did.
I added a little ceramic number 1 knob to tie into the Typography theme of the chest of drawers. His Papa added the dream catcher so he could get some peaceful sleep in his new room.
I’ll be sharing the reveal of his entire room on the blog a little later. In the meantime, you can join me in questioning my color choices for his nursery and get a sneak peek of his new room and how I transformed this custom built bookcase, here.
What do you think? Are you inspired to change up some of your own furniture now?
