You might have noticed I’m not great at holiday blogging. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s just not my thing. Which is funny because I am a holiday nut. Maybe I’m just so busy having a holiday I don’t get around to posting about one. Maybe I’ve been living in a construction zone for years, and while we are almost there, there’s still so much to do on this former foreclosure that my mind is only on the bigger picture. Kind of like I can’t see the trees for the forest.
Truthfully I am envious of handmade wrapping paper and cute little holiday projects. Not because I feel pressured to make them but because I want to and there just doesn’t seem to be time. I don’t do many of my larger projects during the holidays and when I’m not creating there’s just this big void.
Then I spotted these chalkboard label glasses in the Pier 1 fall catalog and thought, Hey! There’s something I can actually get done! I already had the glasses on hand, found for a dollar a piece at The Dollar Store.
And you might remember this Glass Chalkboard Paint from DecoArt® that I used on the Beetlejuice Milk Shake jars last month.
I am slightly in love with this stuff and went a little crazy with it putting it on just about everything.
It’s pretty amazing because once you bake it’s permanent, even dishwasher safe! You’ll give the paint about 4 days to cure prior to baking, so plan ahead.
Then all that’s left is to prime your labels with chalk.
In case you didn’t know, this keeps the first thing your write on your labels from being permanently etched in the surface.
But then you’re left with all these pretty glasses and nothing to put in them. For these I opted for a mulled wine. After my trip to Toronto where I developed a lover for cider and realized I cannot get it here in the states, I figured this was the next best thing. I used this Mulled Wine Recipe from Williams Sonoma except I used a sweet red because I like sweet stuff. And also because I tend to buy wine bottles based on their beauty and later uses than for what’s inside. This particular brand is great for both.
As my husband is looking over my should at these photos he says, It looks like there’s someone sitting in the glass. {Thanks for noticing}
And of course there was. At this point my two children are in the office behind this glass, near the tree that’s currently creating that gorgeous bokeh for my photo and they going at each other like little Tasmanian devils. Just in case beautiful holiday shots make you feel like everyone else’s homes are perfect and peaceful during the holidays.
It’s all an illusion.
I snapped this blurry pic of the little one running off (and screaming like a banshee) because he realized I was getting photographic evidence of his tantrum.
It was in that moment I realized three things: 1) Maybe it isn’t entirely the house renovations that keep me from getting things done around here, 2) Good choice going with the Mulled Wine there, Jamie! and 3) I don’t care that it’s only 4 in the afternoon, I am totally drinking this just as soon as the pictures are done.
Ok. Maybe I realized four things.
4) I really wouldn’t have it any other way!
**These would make great cups for your holiday table. If you’re interested in whipping some up before next week or for your Christmas fetes, you’ll find the Glass Chalkboard Paint from DecoArt® at your local craft store.
