I figured what better way to celebrate my birthday (today!) than with birthday week on my blog! So for the next few days I’ll be sharing some party highlights from my son’s Rock N Roll Birthday Party in August including DIY VIP Pass Invites and Custom CD Party Favors.
If you know me, like at all, you’ll know that I am a big fan of a good party and that fall is my all time favorite. So it’s fun to have a fall birthday. When my little guy told me he wanted told me he wanted a “pumpkin party” this year. I knew it had to be The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
I know probably no one believes this but I do love simple. Detailed, but simple. We did some fun ghosts with balloons draped in cheesecloth with paper cut outs for eyes. We modeled them after the Peanuts characters’ costumes so the Charlie Brown ghost got several extra “holes”.
We draped yellow and black crepe streamers as a photo backdrop and we wrapped the presents in yellow and black, too.
I let my little one pick out the pumpkins for his party. He helped me decorate with them. In the end we just grouped them on this chest in the foyer. After the party they double as fall decor.
Simple but fun and he got to tell me just what he wanted for his party.
In addition to ghosts, that was pumpkin everything. And balloon. Every party must have balloons.
I got this great poster by Tom Whalen for the wall and used my newly made chalkboard table for the desserts.
We got to write him little happy birthday messages on it plus it was a great backdrop for all of the yummy orange treats.
I usually make my kids birthday cakes but this year I’d found a picture on Pinterest of the cake I wanted and I just adored it. Plus, I’m fairly certain it’s outside my skill set. So, I had a local mother and daughter team – Sweet Temptations by Laura & Lindsey and they nailed it! I was so in love with this cake it was hard to eat. I just kind of wanted to stare at it. I’m glad we did eat it though because it was absolutely delicious.
I took notes from last year’s Minecraft party and used those same giant marshmallows to make yummy treats. They were giant pumpkins instead of mushrooms this time.
I once decided it might be yummy to add a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spices to my pumpkin shaped rice krispie treats. Lo and behold, it was a delicious decision. Top them off with half a tootsie roll and the makes them even better.
Poor Charlie Brown. He always got a rock. At least ours were yummy.
I always loved that commercial with the owl growing up, ‘How many licks does it take to get the center of Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop? A one, a two, a three!”
And what’s a fall party with candy corn? This got to sprinkle a little extra sweetness on anything they liked.
We had a popcorn bar set up. After dinner, presents and cake and ice cream we had some popcorn.
Everyone had their own individual box.
They filled up their boxes with popcorn.
Then they could add toppings: candy corn, sprinkles, reese’s or sweedish fish.
We had Lucy’s 5¢ lemonade to wash it all down with.
Made extra cute, as everything is, by paper straws.
I printed out some cute labels for our water bottles, too in case anyone opted for something without sugar.
Once everyone had their custom popcorn ready it was time to grab a blanket and a movie.
We ended the night watching The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and munching on our custom popcorn concoctions. We rented a projector from our local elementary school. There’s just something magical about watching a movie in giant, on your wall.
It was one of the most relaxing, fun and simple parties we’ve had and it ranks right up there as one of my favorites. If you’re preparing for a fall birthday or just fun fall bash you can find the FREE Printables I used for our party: HERE*.
{*I found these printables through a Google image search. Sadly the blogger responsible for these adorable printables no longer seems to be active so I apologize that there is no link directly to her blog.}
I like you, Charlie Brown.

How did you get the items on the printables changed? I will be using suckers like you did and love how you changed it to rock pops. Thanks, Lynzie

I had to go back and look to see. I’d forgotten. I use Photoshop to edit. I don’t know if that’s very helpful though!

Love this party theme! Where did you find the file for the poster printable? Thanks!

Honestly, I cannot remember! I’m sorry! It’s a vintage poster.

The poster looks sold out but it’s not vintage — great designer Tom Whalen — here’s his stuff: https://www.deviantart.com/strongstuff/gallery/all

Hi Meredith!
I really appreciate you pointing this out. This is NOT where I got my poster. I bought a digital file. But if this is the original artist, I definitely want to give him credit. I will update the post. Thank you!
