A few months back I decided to embark on a new business venture, reviving old furniture. And since I’d run out of furniture to do around our house, for the time being anyway, I needed someone to volunteer theirs. Thankfully my sister-in-law has a lot of faith in me. She volunteered her whole bedroom! This is a sneak peek of that furniture. You can see the rest of the ‘Before’ pics of that furniture in the post below.
This is the picture I texted my SIL when I was done with Little Debbie. Thankfully, she did ‘Likey’. I likey, too!
I decided, why put the boring old drawers back in there? So I found some baskets that were practically made to fit that exact spot. Perfect!
But it needed…something. Once I added the knobs on the baskets, the look was complete.

How did you distress the details? Great example of what I hope to do with my dresser currently in progress, like all other projects- curse of the creative.

The detailing is glazed!

Fabulous! I love the idea of using the baskets instead of the regular drawers.

Thanks so much Carrie!

What did you put in as support for underneath the baskets?
Anonymous says
Alexis I was wondering the same thing….

Did you just sand it and then paint it?

Can you tell me the color and brand of the brown on top? Thanks! JM

I saw your drawers they were so cute and I am doing some just like it! But was wondering if or how you put a wood board in between for the baskets to sit on? Thanks
jamie says
Hi Rachel,
It really depends on the piece because they are all different. Sometimes I have to build out the inside to create a platform for the shelf to sit on and other times the structure is already built in such a way that all that is necessary is just to cut a shelf and sit it in the piece. You’ll just have to take out your drawers and see what you are left with.

I have this exact bedroom suite and loved what you did so much that I decided to copy…can you tell me where you purchased your baskets? I’m having trouble with that.
jamie says
Ohhh it’s been a couple of years since I got these but I believe they came from Lowe’s. If not, Hobby Lobby. But really finding baskets is tricky. I pretty much look everywhere until I find some that will fit. Good luck!

Is this piece wood or laminate? If its laminate, could you possibly tell me the steps you took to refurbish this piece? (sanding, paint used, primer, etc.)
jamie says
It was wood so none of the headache like with laminate.

What’s kind of finish is the paint. And what color is that brown on the top if you dont mind me asking lol. Looks great
jamie says
Hi Keith
Thank you! It’s been so long ago since I completed this. I believe the bottom was called Bavarian Cream from Glidden (I think). The top is done in Dark Walnut by Minwax.

Hi! I am so excited! I saw your post a LONG time ago and pinned it. I am now attempting to refinish my first project, which is almost identical to this bedroom set. Although, I decided to use country gray chalk paint 🙂 I am having a hard time finding a basket that will fit! That part is staying unfinished until I find the perfect one (but still hanging on to the drawer in case I can’t find a basket). Beautiful work!!

Finding the baskets is always the hardest part! Good luck and thank you!
